The Fordham Ram

My two and a half year tenure with the Fordham Ram began in March 2019. At the time, I was looking for a new niche through which to etch my name in it’s history, hone the skills I wanted to craft, and contribute to the broader conversations within the campus community.

After a short stint with the campus radio station, I believe I found that comfortable spot for me to do those things in the Fordham Ram.

I began writing as a contributor for the sports section, producing weekly articles for a few individual blog pages on the newspaper’s online publication. The early portion of my Ram work tended to focus on my simple thoughts in recapping the weekend’s events for the professional football teams, the Giants and Jets. Although I could approach the subjects easily from the standpoint of being a fan, it took me a few articles to ascertain the feel of sports writing, something I felt was reflected by my third piece being chosen to be featured in the print version of the paper.

Eight months later, I was offered the opportunity to become a staff writer for the sports section. That November, and through the remainder of volumes 102 and 103, I wanted to take my writing to the next level, delving deeper than just the box score on a Monday morning. I expanded my subject areas and contributed thoughtful analysis on the latest stories happening at the local and national level—trades and acquisitions, player trends and analysis, executive/front office drama, celebratory accomplishments and heartbreaking, unfathomable loss, political/social strife, off the field scandals, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. With every article came more trust from the editing team that I could produce well-researched and formulated pieces and by the time I finished my final piece before graduation, I felt that I had accumulated a portfolio capable of showcasing my ability to bring strong, opinionated perspectives to the conversation.

Below is my entire portfolio of work for the Fordham Ram, stretching from sophomore to senior year.
